Nominee Q&A: Emily Hoffert

2015 Board Nominee Emily Hoffert has been a member-owner since 7/1/2013.
1. Why do you want to be a member of the Bethlehem Food Co-Op Board of Directors?
I was involved and an active member in the very beginning until I had to move away. I'm very happy to have moved back to Bethlehem and I'm excited to be involved with the Co-op again.

2. Briefly explain what you believe are two key issues facing the Co-op and how you believe these issues could be addressed:
The two key factors we are currently facing are membership recruitment and management of finances. We need to increase our membership numbers in order to have the financial stability to open our doors and keep them open.

3. What particular skills, knowledge, and/or life experience do you bring to our Food Co-op that enables you to support and advance its mission?
I was very involved and invested in helping my parents open Jumbars when I was in high school. I helped with the writing of their business plan. When my mother passed away in 2008 I took over running the business. I handle everything from staff management, marketing and cash flow management. We were members of the Downtown Bethlehem Association and have several networking connections throughout the city.

4. What do you see as potential opportunities for the Co-op as it develops long-term strategies?
With the popularity and success of local farmer's markets and Vegfest there is a burgeoning interest and desire for healthy and natural foods and sustainable living. The market exists here in the valley for the Bethlehem Food Co-op to be successful.

5. When the co-op opens, what is the first item you hope to put in your shopping basket?
Some fresh ground nutbutter, local honey, and raw milk cheese.
