1. Why are you running for the board?
I was an early member of the Bethlehem Food Co-op initiative and want to see one in Bethlehem because I believe in the mission of food co-op: increasing access to affordable, fresh and minimally processed locally grown produce and helping to raise awareness of the benefits of eating a healthy diet.
2. What skill sets do you bring to the table?
I have managerial, project management and public relations experience. I am an effective communicator and posses strong people skills. Because of my professional work experience, I know the Lehigh Valley well and have a reputation as an ethical and caring member of the community. Although now retired, I continue to serve on a number of boards and committees of non-profit organizations (including Touchstone Theatre, the United Way the Greater Lehigh Valley, Hispanic Center of the Lehigh Valley). I am an active member of the Bethlehem Rotary Club and believe in its mission of service above self.
3. What do you believe is the value of cooperative enterprise in today's economy?
I believe strongly in supporting local farmers and producers. Co-ops gives them an outlet for their products, helping them succeed and keeping money circulating locally.
4. How would you explain the Bethlehem Food Co-Op and its development to a neighbor?
Because of the sign in my yard, I have had the opportunity to explain the benefits of being a co-op member to curious neighbors. I recruited a friend to join as a member. I am a member of the MOVE committee and helped to develop the talking points, so know I know them well.
5. How much time are you able to dedicate to your service on the Bethlehem Food Co-Op board of directors?
If elected to the board, I am willing to give it all the time required. Because of a family commitment, I had to curtail my involvement on the MOVE committee during this past year, but I no longer have that family commitment and am free to become an active member of the board.
