Understanding Food Choice

Scroll down to register online!

For those of us who want to make the “right” food choices, deciding what to eat can be complicated and frustrating. We might think we have the right answers, but so does our neighbor and the way they eat seems to contradict the choices we’re making. Who’s right? Does someone have to be right? Why is this all so darn hard?

This series of courses has been put together to give us a place to talk about our food culture and to help us make educated food decisions. Our goal will be to look at all sides of the conversation when investigating a topic. We will learn to see through the noise of food fads, navigate our way through the politics of food science, and to simply make sense of the often conflicting messages associated with how we feed ourselves.

The format for this series will vary from class to class. Participants can register for all of the classes, or pick and choose. While each class will be focused on group discussions, we will also spend time observing and critiquing various elements that impact our food lives like local and national food media, our local food system, and our local food culture.

Additional conversation topics may cover:

  • Organics
  • GMOs
  • Food Deserts
  • The US Food System
  • The USDA and the FDA
  • Eating Local
